In effort to prevent any more senseless shootings and mass shootings in America, our politicians need to impose more restrictions on who can be gun owners. The gun laws in place now are too lenient and guns end up in the wrong people hands, resulting in innocent people getting murdered. Supporters against changing the gun laws uses The Second Amendment as a protective right to gun ownership for the purposes of self-defense. Supporters for changing the gun laws feels that The Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. Having a gun in the home increases the chance of using the gun for the wrong reasons, such as murder, an unintentional shooting, or suicide. Enforcing gun laws on a federal level with an ongoing background reporting process would prevent ownership for those who shouldn’t have access to a gun. Some amendments that would impact our society would be to set a limit on how many guns a person can own, secondly, eliminating the right to purchase an automatic weapon, such as an AK-47. Lastly, individuals who are documented to be mentally disturbed should not be allowed to purchase a gun. Our government need to do better by the people and establish gun laws that are protecting people instead of harming them.
