STOP Bill S. 1079
0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!
This bill Senator Joe Manchin it trying to get passed wants to make it so that the FDA has to revoke approval for one opioid medication for every new medication approved. He also is pushing S1078 to establish procedures regarding the approval of opioid drugs by the Food and Drug Administration and S 1077 to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to amend the mission statement of the Food and Drug Administration. Senator Manchin's daughter, Heather Bresch is CEO of Mylan Pharmaceuticals, who raised the price of epi pen's by 400%. Senators who probed into why the price hike happened received campaign donations from Mylan. This bill is a complete conflict of interest and needs to be stopped. The FDA should not be forced to get rid of opioid medications that have been proven to work for these new compound drugs that have yet to even be approved for use in this country. The so-called opioid "epidemic" is totally bogus. The number of opioid prescriptions has dropped by a third since 2011, while the number of deaths where opioids have been a factor has more than doubled. Overdose deaths are dominated by street drugs: heroin, imported fentanil, diverted or stolen morphine and methadone, NOT drugs prescribed and managed by physicians. Restrictions on opioids needed by millions of chronic pain patients are clearly not working. There are no effective, reliable or safe alternatives to opioid analgesics in patients who have already failed multiple non-opioid therapies. We have to put a stop to lawmakers who think they can push bills on the American people that serve no interests but their own and cause people to suffer needlessly.
