School drug test funded by Tobacco Tax
School drug test funded by Tobacco Tax
There is an epidemic of drug use amongst our teenagers. Most parents are not aware of how easy it has become to gain access to drugs. This has caused dropout out rates to increase, behavioral problems in class, seizures, overdose and even death. Many of our teachers and administrative staff are asking for help as they too do not know how to get ahead of this problem. I propose Tobacco tax and/or dispensaries help fund drug test for for all students upon registration at public/charter/private schools from middle to 12th grade*. Children tested positive at the beginning of school year will be under surveillance and randomly tested throughout the school year at the parents expense and a refund will be provided from the tax fund if child test negative. This will raise awareness with the parents and ownership to the student. The more children we help to stay off drugs the more we will see peer pressure, bullying and a myriad of other problems decline. The hope is that the tobacco and dispensaries behind the sale to an under aged person will cease and more children are free to be children and foster a work environment for teachers that children can flourish in. This will give the tobacco industry an opportunity to show they have the heart to save a life, as much as they’ve taken them.
