Colin Beck started this petition to U.S. House of Representatives and

The process to receive an Immigrant Visa in the United States is a 9 step, expensive process, before you receive an interview. It did not use to be so complicated or difficult to enter the U.S. and “The Great Melting Pot” was one of the things that made us so powerful and unique. However, based on the Immigration & Nationality Act of 1952, these are severely limited and used to bottleneck immigration from “unwanted” countries (communist), now the poor countries to the south. This made it practically impossible to immigrate legally if you were an average citizen, or one the poor and downtrodden.

According to the PEW research center, over 10million unauthorized immigrants were living in the U.S in 2017, though estimates range as high as 15million. Today they are known as “Illegal Immigrants” or “Undocumented Immigrants”, depending on your political leanings, but we can all agree they are here, a part of the United States, and going nowhere. The bottlenecking and limitation of immigration did not stop it, it criminalized it.

Forcing people to live in the shadows means we force them to contribute less to our great society when they would contribute more if given the chance. The National Academy of Science placed the lost revenue at nearly $70,000 per immigrant (lifetime), mostly driven by a failure/inability to pay income tax.  When considering the U.S Border Patrol Budget for 2019 was $5 Billion, and rising, our current immigration policy is financially irresponsible and disastrous.

It is time to make available more Immigrant Visas and streamline the process. If a person has not committed serious crimes in other countries and/or in the U.S and is work-eligible, a Visa must be provided to start the immigration process. This will tie an SSN to the individual and start the citizenship process. This must be opened for existing immigrants in the U.S who are currently here without authorization. This saves money, saves lives, and provides dignity and a path to citizenship for our friends, neighbors, and loved ones.

No more political sparring from our elected officials.

No more children in cages.

No more raids on good working people.

The House of Representatives and the President work for us and need to fix this now. We need to tell them the time is up and we no longer acquiesce to the treatment of our neighbors. Immigration once made America great, if you want to Make America Great Again, this is how you start.
