Since the recent resurgence in Black Lives Matter Protests, almost 500 press freedom violations have been reported and over 140 have been confirmed (U.S. Press Freedom Tracker). Journalists covering BLM protests have been violently attacked despite wearing press badges and stating their career. This is a clear violation of the First Amendment for which this country stands. Journalists are essential workers who uphold our democracy by educating our people. They must be defended.
