Pass H.R.4408 into LAW — 116th Congress - Eric Garner Excessive Use of Force Prevention
Why this petition matters
We, the people, want H.R.4408 passed into law to prevent the excessive use of force, specifically forbidding the use of chokeholds, by police departments around this great land. Police who use excessive force are infringing upon the human rights of the American people. Change this! Lead the way to a safer America for all Americans! Hold the police accountable! Preventing excessive use of force is the first step to holding the police who do it accountable and deterring the police who are tempted to do it! Protect the American people or we will vote you out and elect officials who will do something about this!
H.R.4408 is sponsored by Rep. Hakeem S. Jeffries [D-NY-8]
On September 19, 2019, H.R.4408 was introduced by the House of Representatives and referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
On October 28, 2019, it was referred to the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.
Since then, this bill has not moved. Why?
Pass this bill into law!
Each day, American citizens are dying at the hands of police who choose to use excessive force and abuse their power with impunity. The legal tenet of innocent until proven guilty is not applied equally to all American people. Today, police can kill a suspect with their bare hands on the streets of this country and get away it. This is unjust! This is injustice! And all too often, as we know, police target black and brown American citizens to use their excessive force against.
Police are emboldened and know they are not being held accountable. Change this! Pass this bill! Protect the human rights of the American people!
