Have the federal government recognize the military as a career.

The federal government has deemed a GED/HiSet as not indicating a student is college and career ready. However, the military minimum requirement for enlistment is to have earned a GED/HiSet. This indicates the federal government does not recognize the military as a career. Please sign this petition requesting the federal government recognize the service of individuals in the military as an important career and request they change federal law and permit the completion of a GED/HiSet be recognized as equivalent to a high school diploma.
More details: The US Department of Education has publicly stated "Student graduation from high school with a regular high school diploma is an important indicator of school success and one of the most significant indicators of student college and career readiness (https://www2.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/essa/essagradrateguidance.pdf Also, current federal legislation explicitly states, "A State may not include a recognized equivalent of a diploma as a regular high school diploma for the purpose of calculating the four-year or extended-year ACGR. (ESEA section 8101(43)(B); 34 C.F.R. § 200.34(c)(2)). Thus, students who graduate with a credential other than a regular high school diploma, such as a general equivalency diploma” (GED/HiSet) … may not be counted as having earned a regular high school diploma.
