How many lives have to be lost in order for the United States to change our gun laws? 59% of shooter have a mental illness, either diagnosed or have shown symptoms prior to their senseless attack. Guns cannot and will never be banned entirely in the United States. However in order to purchase a gun, the individual NEEDS to have an extensive background check with NO mental illness, as well as anyone who can have easy access to the gun being purchased (relative, roommate, etc.).
