Petition for funding for the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act
As of 2014, approximately 21.5 million people aged 12 of older had a substance use disorder ( SAMHSA 2016 ) and over 63% of the population say that someone with an addiction to alcohol or other drugs has impacted their lives in some way (Faces and Voice Recovery Campaign 2014). Opioid abuse in particular has sky rocketed lately, with an estimated 2.1 million people addicted to opioids as of 2014.
In 2016, the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery bill was passed, meant to expand access to care, review best practices for pain medication prescription, update state prescription drug monitoring programs, increase access to overdose treatment and increase assess to medication assisted treatment for recovery. Unfortunately, although the bill has been approved and passed, it has not been fully funded, which negatively impacts the effectiveness of the bill.
This petition is to ask our government to fully fund the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery bill so that we help treat and prevent opioid addictions in our country.
