Police academies on average last 13-19 weeks and cover learning state laws, criminal investigations, patrol procedures, firearms training, traffic control, defensive driving, self-defense, first aid and computer skills. Police academy recruits also undertake physical training and fieldwork that demonstrates their comprehension of classroom instruction.

What is missing? CULTURE AND DIVERSITY. My petition to the states, the nation, and the world is a new element be added into police academy training where they learn about different cultures and are assigned projects to actually go out into these cultural communities and experience life alongside them.

The goal would be for these officers to learn respect and admiration for all types of cultures and life. Not only to understand them but to feel for them and care for them. Any officer unwilling needs to be kicked out which will proactively help cycles of insensitivity and unfairness even on a small scale.

It's not just about the injustice on a national scale, but the "tiny" ones experienced by individual humans everyday that go unnoticed. I know nothing will ever be perfect, but this would be a massive step in the right direction.
