This is my daughter, Cassidy. She died from a drug overdose. Insurance companies treat mental health issues including chronic brain disorders, such as Heroin Use Disorder, as a different category than any other health problem. Thus, the insurance company can abitrarily limit the length of treatment that is necessary to put the disorder into remission. Imagine if your insurance company could arbitrarily limit breast cancer treatment to 3 weeks. Arbitrarily limiting treatment for substance use disorders is complicit in the deaths of thousands of Americans, including my daughter, Cassidy. By signing this, you are requesting for Congress to pass a law that prohibits insurance companies from discriminating against people with brain disorders, because your brain is no less a part of your body than your breasts, lungs or kidneys.
