Bring an end to "Black Thursday"

Every year, retailers choose profits over values. No day better personifies this greed than Thanksgiving. Now referred to as "Black Thursday" by many, Thanksgiving has become the official kickoff to the holiday shopping season. However, in order for consumers to take advantage of this, someone has to make an unworthy sacrifice. That person is the retail employee.

Each year, companies open their doors sooner and sooner, forcing employees to bypass the traditional Thanksgiving meal and time with family, friends, and loved ones. Well this needs to come to an end, starting now. Too many employees are having to spend their holiday in the workplace when they should be with family. Some states still have the so-called "blue laws" in place that prevent this, but a nationwide shift is in order. Whether it start from a local level with your representative, or an executive order from the White House, no longer should families be incomplete due to corporate greed and retail hysteria.

So sign up and support the nearly 10% of Americans that comprise the retail work force. Not all of us work for companies devoid of compassion for their associates, but no one should have to forego the Thanksgiving holiday so that a corporate entity can make a couple extra bucks.

Together we can make a difference. Together we can end "Black Thursday"
