Nicolette Carrion started this petition to U.S. Federal Government and

People have been protesting the killings of unarmed black men by police for the past 30 years, now's the time to turn it into political action. By signing this petition, you are supporting an agenda for police reform that will provide a safeguard against prejudiced police officers and render them powerless.

Politicians have been watching our protests all across the nation calling for justice for George Floyd as well as Breonna Taylor and Amaud Arbery. We have voiced our anger, our pain, and frustration, and now it's time for politicians to see what we believe true justice is for George Floyd and those several other tragic lives lost truly means.

  1. We want a national ban on the excessive use of force and chokeholding by law enforcement.
  2. We want a national ban on racial profiling by police officers; this includes a ban on any inquiries of identity and prohibiting decisions that have a discriminatory impact on a particular community,
  3. We want a national law that requires independent investigations of police abuse.
    • Often times the accountability on the police officer responsible is slim to none. This is because the very prosecutors assigned to investigate police officers, regularly work hand-in-hand with them in a collective law enforcement unit. This has led to improper investigations in several high profile cases such as Eric Garner, Michael Brown. We believe this to be a conflict of interest and prosecution must be held by an independent party such as the state attorney general.
  4. We want the reports of serious misconduct of police officers to be investigated and we want them to be disclosed if those officers are being investigated.
  5. We want the specific data of each incident including the charge, the use of force, reason for search, race, gender, and age made publicly available information.
  6. We want to ban police evaluations based on their number of arrests.

I believe that these reform policies will significantly increase the accountability of our law enforcement officers by legal and community oversight, set a standard for police practices, and contribute to making American people, especially black people, feeling more safe in their own country.

If you agree, sign this!! So we can get the exposure to show politicians what we want!!
