Every year dogs get put down just because they are a certain type of breed. Breeds, such as pitbulls or rottweilers, are said to be aggressive or dangerous with statistics of pit bulls for having the highest percentage of reported bites being 22.5%. Any dog can be dangerous and a certain type of breed isn’t more or less dangerous than others. "It is the dog's individual history that reflects back on to how they will behave and act" as said by the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association). These dogs are being harmed and killed off because they are one of these breeds are said to be dangerous. This not only harms the animals but also harms owners that are having their pets ripped away from them. Aggressiveness isn’t in a dogs genes and there isn’t anything about them that make them more or less dangerous, the reason these dogs (mainly pitbulls) are aggressive are based off of their surroundings or owners. It’s not right to say all pitbulls are dangerous and deserved to be put down. Just because some dogs of these breeds are aggressive doesn’t mean that they all are. Dogs can bite or be aggressive from stressful situations, protecting themselves, and even from feeling threatened or scared according to the Canine Journal. People are putting down these breeds for no reason other than they are known to be dangerous and are assuming all are the exact same. Some states are even going as far as banning these breeds. 75 breeds are currently banned in the US alone.  These dogs are getting unfair treatment that needs to be fixed. All dogs should be treated equally and not based off of their breeds. All dogs are the same and none are any more dangerous than the other.
