We are writing due to the policy exception that the U.S. Department of State confirmed for Au Pairs who are currently in their second term with an end date between December 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.

Firstly, in order to this, there are many Au Pairs who cannot apply because their second term ends after the dateline. So, it is very unjust because these Au Pairs who their second year ends after June 30, 2021 have been living more months under COVID restrictions.

According to this, Au Pairs do not have the possibility to experience what the program and J-1 VISA offer (cultural exchange, etc.). Moreover, in spite of this pandemic, we decided to extend but we are still living this hard time. Most of the months that we spent in the US have been spent under Stay - At - Home orders and altered due to COVID-19. Also, now in some states with a Stay - Home - Order again.

Secondly, this is a really difficult and unexpected time for Au Pairs and host families. All of us are putting our effort to endure this situation.

On the other hand, this time affect host families too. For some of them it is really hard find an Au Pair and a great match during the pandemic. New Au pairs from many countries could not come to the U.S at this time, so there are only Au Pairs in country available. As a result, it could be great if their current Au Pairs can extend with them 6 more months after their second term ending.

Above all, our point of view is that decision of the Department of State is totally unfair because all of us are in the same situation. We believe that all the Au Pairs that are living this hard time deserve the opportunity to apply six more months.

Therefore, we ask that the U.S Department of State and Au Pair companies strongly consider this and take the decision to extend this term of all that we are getting through this tough time.
