Katy Emory started this petition to U.S. Department of Education

The reason being is, after high school I was accepted into a 4 year college that was my DREAM! I was later denied because they had realized I did not have a foreign language in my high school transcripts. I was limited to 3 options in high school. I was disappointed that I was limited and what I had to choose from for an elective, and this is why I feel we need a change. While these languages are important to some, I feel that these requirements are stagnant. My proposal is to open up the option for a more diverse pool of languages that include the global population.  One language that is truly international is sign language. If we truly want to include everyone, then we should accept this as one of the languages for requirements for foreign language credits.
