Why this petition matters

Started by Theodore Rochlin

September is National Suicide Awareness Month. Every 40 seconds, someone commits suicide. It is a raging pandemic that the world has lost sight of among Covid-19.

This doesn't have to be the case. If it was mandatory for schools to take a deeper dive into mental health, the risk of suicide among individuals would drop. It is pertinent that people learn coping and grounding skills before it is too late. Teaching mindfulness and meditation could go a long way. As a 21 year old with very little prior education on mental health, I have had 3 suicide attempts. It took being institutionalized in four different places this year in order for me to finally learn something.

Make serious mental health education mandatory in every school across the country. You don't know how many lives we could save if we do.
