This community shouldn't have to bear all the consequences, and there are too many, that widening the lock so that two barges can pass. Stop the Lock!

Widening the Industrial Canal would be sheer madness. The Army Corps has clearly not learned from past catastrophic mistakes they made in building the Industrial Canal in the first place. Now is the time to shore up what is already built and not create new potentially cataclysmic wounds to the land and waterways. It is always the residents of New Orleans East and the Lower Ninth Ward who pay the price for this grotesque pattern of mismanagement. It must not go forward. People and preservation must come before corporate greed and dangerous, amnesiac and misguided Corps plans.

And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory, Revelation 18:1

This is only going to aggravate the flooding by depriving New Orleans of its natural wetlands buffer.

As someone who's working on the redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward, 15 years after the levees collapsed, I know that this project will end any progress here. Think of the sound of pile-driving. Think of that going on for 13 years. Each strike will be tolling our death knell.

I love the people of New Orleans and they need protection for poor planning and spending.

The Army Corps of Engineers has already done a great deal of damage to our city and the neighborhoods.
