Healthy and resilient oceans and coastal communities are critical to ensuring a thriving blue economy and safeguarding our nation from the impacts of climate change. As climate-change related events increase near all our nation’s shores, it is critical that we ensure solutions that are just and equitable, and focus on innovation that will propel the U.S. economy forward in a more sustainable and prosperous direction.

The Ocean Climate Action Plan (OCAP), developed by Blue Frontier, the Center for the Blue Economy, in conjunction with our Youth Advisory Council and dozens of partners across the nation, will help America rebuild better than ever before. By adding your voice to this petition you are sending a clear message that our coasts and ocean can no longer take a backseat in US climate policy.

The OCAP—Blue New Deal—is a nonpartisan, broad-reaching policy framework that includes investing in living shorelines, federal flood insurance reform, offshore clean energy, green ports & shipping, and sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, and marine biodiversity. These solutions have been missing from earlier Congressional climate change plans, including the Green New Deal.

Please join with John Kerry, Leon Panetta, Jane Fonda, Sylvia Earle, Bill McKibben and more than 100 other leaders and supporters of the Ocean Climate Action Plan.

By signing this petition you commit to:

1. Vote in the upcoming presidential election for candidates that support action on climate change; you can see how your congressional candidates score on conservation priorities here
