Elected officials in Washington, DC and in each state continue to be paid their full salaries (or close to) and benefits while millions of Americans suffer from the business closures mandated by those same elected officials. Americans are being asked to make these sacrifices for the greater good and so it is only fair that those same elected officials make similar sacrifices for the greater good. Their salaries are paid by the same American taxpayers who are suffering.

People are losing their businesses, their livelihoods; children are prevented from in-person education, sports, and even playgrounds; families are prevented from seeing each other, spending the holidays together, or even burying their lost loved ones properly; as our elected officials tell us "we are all in this together."

Well, it's time for us to all be in this together and this petition asks that the Congress and each state legislature pass legislation reducing their salaries by 50% until the business closures have been lifted.

If each legislature truly believes we are all in this together, this shouldn't be too hard.
