The military presence in Hawaii is both valuable and lucrative for the state. The military are part of the state's "ohana".

My father was in the military and during the vietnam war, as a child I had the opportunity to visit him at Schofield Barracks. Military presence in Hawaii is a strategic point for the US in the Pacific. This landmark tradition is part of Hawaii's culture

In addition to the economy the military presence is a visual educational exposure of the world an ocean away. We are reminded of our place in this world and of the importance of our way of life - the Aloha Spirit. Too, many of these Hero soldiers will carry with them a sense of this special place on earth - a grounding in their life's journey - that will serve them well in their duties as occupational forces.
Hawai`i is good for these Hero soldiers. A full Hero soldier troop strength level is good for Hawai`i.

I am signing this petition not only because it would greatly impact our economy financially; but also Hawaii is a major strategic location that can impact the Asian countries that line the Pacific Ocean.

The mere fact that this possibility is being exercised is beyond comprehension taking into account the current and likely future issues that will occur as developing nations within the Pacific Rim continue to advance & strengthen their economic and military industrial capabilities. We never appear to learn lessons from our past. Always making the same mistakes until it's to late. We must continue to maintain strategic, tactical, and a strong Military & economic posture to assure stability throughout the Pacific Rim. Do Not Downsize our forces in Hawaii, to do so compromises our local and national security.
