U.K. Government should classify Nigeria as English speaking country
Nigeria is a commonwealth country and a former colony of the United Kingdom. Rather strangely, for immigration and obviously economic purpose, Nigeria is classified as non-English speaking. Nigerians emigrating to the U.K. to live or study are currently required to pay hundreds of pounds to sit the IELTS English Language Test in order to apply for a visa. This is discriminatory and more of an avenue for generating funds. Nigeria is an English speaking country, English is the medium for teaching in Nigeria’s schools and the country’s official language is English. It is exploitative and discriminatory to make Nigerians pay hundreds of pounds for English test in addition to the visa fees. Parliament and No. 10 Downing Street need to act to stop this exploitative discrimination.
