A freedom of information request has revealed that after the abolition of slavery, the British government in 1835 borrowed 20 million pounds  (17 billion today) and then pledged to reimburse former slave owners. This debt was finally paid off in 2015 by British taxpayers. This means that the descendants of slaves in the U.K.– who have never received reparations  for the enslavement of their ancestors  – have been paying off the compensation paid to slave OWNERS  and their descendants. We will be petitioning the government for those payments to be reimbursed to every tax payer in the country that had an ancestor subjected to the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade.  This travesty must be exposed and addressed!
