We all say how lucky we are to have our NHS. Let's not just say it,  let's do something and show our appreciation by having a national 'Thankyou NHS Day'.

Inspired by the 'clapping for the NHS' during the coronavirus period, we now need to do more. They need more.

We have all been deeply affected by this virus in some way. Those on the front line have put themselves and their families in danger and have been asked to do a more difficult job than even they expected.

We could say thankyou to specific members of staff. We could show our support by wearing blue that day, celebrating the NHS in schools, offices etc.We could examine the issues faced and some of the heroic acts that are occurring right now during the coronavirus outbreak.

We could extend it to be more like a  combination of Comic Relief Day and the Pride of Britain Awards.  Bob Geldof,  Richard Curtis,  Lenny Henry... are you willing to help?!  But the most important thing is to show how much it means to us and to say thankyou.

We could possibly raise money for extra special NHS causes. We should examine issues across political divides and properly debate how to support it.  But the most important thing at this stage is to start by saying thankyou.

At the moment I think of this as a one off event to say a genuine thankyou and to look into what heroic staff work in the NHS but with enough backing it could be an annual event.

Things need to change. Let's start that debate by saying thankyou for one of the things that makes Britain great.
