George Rosner was honored with the Streamwood High School gymnasium being named for him - Rosner Arena! This honor was presented to him in front of family, friends, current and past students and team mates. The local news station did a story to share this amazing achievement with the surrounding area. This honor was recently taken away from Mr. Rosner.  Streamwood High School was not aware of a district policy stating a building, gym, auditorium, etc could not be named for a living person. There were also proper steps to naming a building that were missed. I agree, this was a misstep HOWEVER, I feel the Board of Education failed our community by not even attempting to make this name change permanent. According to policy, the BOE has the discretion to make exceptions to the naming rules all except for the living/dead rule. This is ridiculous that a person has to be dead in order to receive an honor such as this.  

The sign "Rosner Arena" was removed over Winter break when school was not in session. 

George Rosner has dedicated over 40 YEARS of his life to his students, teams, fellow staff and our community. He is extremely deserving of this amazing honor. 

The current policy needs to be changed to allow a building, etc to be named for a LIVING person. The Board has the ability to make this change. They need to do this. It's the right thing to do. The policy does also seem to contradict itself stating that "The Board may at its discretion name portions of a building, such as a library or auditorium, for persons of prominence whether living or dead"

Mr. Rosner has an amazing TEAM of support behind him that all want Rosner Arena to be reinstated.
