Too many people think they can get away with being abusive or hide behind fake accounts on social media.

Keyboard warriors who are abusive to others, hiding behind their fake profiles, knowing they won't be caught.

Racists and paedophiles commit their crimes without fear of being caught.

All causing anxiety and harm to their victims.

Some victims feel so bullied they commit suicide.

This needs to be stopped.

Social media should introduce a verification system.

All users should be made to upload a picture of themselves holding some form of photographic ID plus proof of address before they are allowed to make posts or reply.  These pictures should be freely available, on request, to law enforcement agencies and agreeing to that should form part of the terms and conditions users agree to.

By verifying, users may think twice before posting anything which may be classified as hate speech. Consequently, trolls and Bots should cease to exist.

This would not affect anyones right to free speech. Once verified, they can still post what they want. But saying what you like must have consequences if it is illegal or incites hatred and this way means police can act.

Verification would make social media a safer place for children and protect vulnerable adults and make it more enjoyable for all.

If you agree then please sign this petition.
