Tate Miller started this petition to Twin Valley Students

When I first created this "counter-petition" over 2 years ago, I did not fully understand what the motive was. While I still may not understand the full motive, here's what I understand from the movement:

A group of current and post twin valley students want to change, mainly the mascot, but probably also our school logo and name.

While I disagree with the overall changing of the raider, I do believe some changes should be made. As an alumni from Twin Valley, I believe I was never truly taught what it meant to be a "raider". With the push to remove the raider possibly from our school name, the history of the raider in generations to come will be forgotten. Instead of changing the raider, I believe that in our classes, we should be taught what it is like to be a raider, a fearsome warrior who was not afraid of danger. In life, we will be faced with struggles, and we will have to tackle them, just like the raiders used to.

I believe that honoring the raider and the legacy that they left on the piece of land our school lays on is more important than removing it from history, only to be forgotten. If slight design changes have to be made to our mascot/logo to more honor the raider than for it to be offensive, so be it.

In summary, I do not believe that changing the raider is the answer to solving the problem at hand. Changes to our teaching system to more honor the legacy of the tribe would be a more practical solution, and bring more honor to the tribe.

(I will be removing all hate comments directed at specific people from here on out. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and just because it is different than another, it is okay)
