TWEED SHIRE COUNCIL: Say No to Paid Parking On The Tweed Coast

The Tweed Coast of Australia enjoys an enviable laid-back outdoor lifestyle. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the kilometres of coastline and riverways perfect for surfing, fishing, boating, or simply taking the kids for a play. But now it's time to stand up against the Tweed Council implementing paid parking at our beaches, parks and boat ramps – areas that should be free public spaces that all can enjoy, not just those who can afford it.
A test run will be rolled out at Fingal Head Boat Ramp and Ambrose Brown Park at Pottsville, but the council has identified more than 1000 parking spaces in high usage areas over which Council is planning to implement a pay parking scheme.
Areas targeted for pay parking include:
Kennedy Drive Boat Ramp
Cabarita Beach Norries Headland
Chinderah Boat Ramp
Tweed Heads Old Fire Station Bay St
Hastings Point Cudgera Creek
Plus many others...
With fees likely to be $2 per hour for cars and $5 per hour for cars with boat trailers, a lazy day on the water just became out of reach for many families. This cost is ludicrous will also drive away the tourist trade the area relies on, adversely affect many local businesses who are struggling enough at the moment already.
Let’s stand up to stop this before it it starts! keep our beaches, boat ramps and parks free for all to enjoy.
Add your voice to the online petition, and tell the Tweed Council that paid parking has no place on the Tweed Coast.
