While there may be LGBTQIA+ characters or shows in the current age of Philippine Television, it's somehow presented in a very dim light. These type of characters are most of the times misrepresented for being just comedic or by only being a side character. For some shows, they are somehow given a good role, especially with a romantic side story for them. This could be a step but we can take it further for our LGBTQIA+ siblings.

For almost the whole year of 2020 there has been a rise on BL or Boy's Love Drama in streaming services on Netflix and YouTube. It has made an impact that Black Sheep Production, a famous production company in the country, has started their own series. And thus, it has opened more opportunities to the BL genre and has stretched out even more for GL or Girl's Love Drama. Surprisingly the youth has loved the genre that they even have large fandoms all over the social media sites.  This is clear evidence that the country is ready to take this to another level.

As the genre continues its surge to popularity, streaming media may not be completely enough to send a message to the people. The possibility of televising this genre on national television could make a great impact for our LGBTQIA+ siblings as its role is not only to give a glimpse that these people can also find true love but also to educate the people around them with the knowledge and understanding for the LGBTQIA+ community. Let's help our siblings get the best representation and recognition in the mainstream media here in the Philippines!
