Eric Motel started this petition to TV news and

Why does the media continue to identify the name of each perpetrator of these horrific mass shootings and acts of domestic terrorism and white nationalism? Why do they take the time or energy to do background pieces on their life, how they became the person who orchestrates mass murder or mayhem? Doing so, whether well-intentioned, or motivated by ratings, only serves to provide these forces of evil one of the things they crave most - notoriety and infamy! Ignoring the shooter takes away their power and voice and "legend" critical elements that can motivate others into going down that same road. This petition will ask ALL MEDIA outlets to sign a voluntary pledge to end this practice. Why a"voluntary pledge" and not push for a law against it. Simply because attempting to pass a law invokes freedom of speech and freedom of the press issues and we can't afford to lose years in the courts to something that is/should be, innately simple and right. Let's bring the media outlets to the table to help mitigate the after-effects of these horrific acts and help shut down the allure of incessant media coverage that are always a needless component to each chapter. Let's put our focus on the families and on creating real change in Congress. Together we can help create one small change in this cycle of hatred, racism and intolerance.
