Turks & Caicos Islands - State of Emergency

We the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands, have developed this petition concerning the policing of our streets. With only four months remaining, it has been confirmed that 10 murders have been committed in the year 2019 alone. Crime has spiked to an all-time high in our country; TCI nationals, expatriates and tourists alike are all at risk of encountering the violence which seems to be increasing daily. We suffer from home invasions, attempted murders, assassinations, automobile theft by way of gun, and the list goes on and on.

Our citizens, residents and visitors alike, are now terrified. Many can hardly recognize the place we call ‘home’s. This fear has begun to disturb our work days, with honest working citizens plagued due to the mental fatigue we go through at night; to disrupt families as they endure countless stories of violence and theft; to deter our young population who seem to have lost all faith in our local police force and countless other individuals and groups in this country who have been crippled by this fear.

We believe that the only way forward, is to begin to unify as a people and present our demands to our elected representatives. This petition serves to demand that a minimum of 50 well trained and ethical police officers be recruited to assist the efforts of the Royal TCI Police Force. As we believe the drastic upsurge of violence in this country to render a state of emergency, we demand that this request be fulfilled no later than January 1st, 2020.

At this time, we are also demanding that our elected representatives provide a substantial, country-wide update that outlines the efforts already underway to enhance National Security. We will no longer settle for being in the dark. We will no longer settle for mediocrity from elected officials.  We demand answers. If the silence, violence and lack of effort persists, there will be no reason to build more hotels, villas or resorts, as no one will be safe. Let us not neglect our safety, because nothing else will matter if we do.
