Tuition Grant for Graduates of NCSMM Class of 2019-2020
Tuition Grant for Graduates of NCSMM Class of 2019-2020

The North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) graduates of 2020 faced an academic year like no other: COVID-19 shut down their residential campus; events like prom and graduation were canceled; and their freshman year in college was conducted online. Like all high school students impacted by the pandemic, this cohort has suffered many setbacks and, yet, the North Carolina Legislature has not supported them in any way. By contrast, graduating cohorts after the class of 2020 have been supported with tuition grants that may be continued up to four years in a UNC System institution. Without support, the NCSSM class of 2020 not only contends with the hardships of the pandemic but also the struggle to pay for the cost of an in-state education. The class of 2020 deserves support. Our goal is to lobby the NC State Legislature to appropriate funds to support all 2020 graduates of NCSSM with tuition support similar to that of the class of 2021 for up to four years or the completion of their undergraduate degrees, whichever comes first.
