TTUHSC-SON Summer 2022 Graduation Location

TTUHSC-SON Summer 2022 Graduation Location
Why this petition matters
The purpose of this petition is to urge TTUHSC to move our graduation location to the United Supermarkets Arena so that we may have the same opportunity that was given to other nursing students who graduated before us. Many of us have watched our friends, in the school of nursing and other colleges, be given the privilege of having every single one of their friends and family members watch them walk the stage at the USA. My peers and I have been looking forward to our graduation from the TTUHSC School of Nursing Traditional Undergraduate Program since our start in the program last May. We all worked tremendously hard and could not wait to experience graduation with our friends and family members in attendance at our graduation in the USA, just as past cohorts and other Texas Tech students had experienced. But now, two months before our long-awaited graduation, we have been informed that our graduation location has been moved to a smaller venue. With that change, we are only allotted 6 guest tickets. This poses a problem, for the majority of the nursing students in our cohort, because many of us have more than 6 immediate family members. Additionally, other various family members and friends that wish to attend our graduation will not be able to see us graduate because of this unexpected change. Many of our family members and friends have already paid for and made travel arrangements to be present during a momentous occasion in our life, and now they won’t be able to watch all of us walk across the stage. We are disappointed with this hasty decision and so are our beloved friends and families. We believe we should not be forced to pick between our siblings and grandparents, other family or friends, to decide who is allowed to attend our graduation. Our cohort has worked just as hard and put forth just as much financial resources as the past graduates and we simply believe we should be afforded the same opportunity to graduate with all of our family and friends in attendance as they were. We could not have made it without our family and friends’ support, it is only right that they get to be present with us in such a milestone in our lives.
