Local parents and community have gathered to keep Panton Hill Preschool open in 2021. Parents are devastated that TRY Children Services have made the decision to close Panton Hill Preschool in 2021 due to low enrollments, enrollments currently stand at 11. We have been advised 15 enrollments are needed to keep the Preschool open.

The preschool has been operating for more than 40 years, a lot of the parents of the children who attend now did when they were little too.

The Kinder needs your support, and the Community needs the Kinder.

We are working hard to keep the preschool open and to reinstate the after school program for 2021. Please help by signing our petition and asking your friends and family to show their support by sending your children to Panton Hill Preschool and being part of the solution.

The preschool is the only one that caters to all the outer local communities within the shire and support families in St Andrews, Nutfield, Strathewen, Christmas Hills, Cottles Bridge, Smiths Gully, Arthurs Creek and Panton Hill while feeding into St Andrews and Panton Hill primary schools.

We as a community cannot let this closure happen.  We still have time to change this decision and we as parents and community members will fight this closure.

If you feel as strongly as we do about this issue please send your own letter of support to :

To let council know of your intention to enrol at Panton Hill Preschool for 2021 and beyond the contact details are preschool@nillumbik.vic.gov.au or 9433 3161

About Panton Hill PreSchool

Our child-centered program supports children’s development holistically and embraces the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. It provides children with the opportunity to interact with others, develop relationships with peers & adults, develop a sense of belonging to the group, explore & experiment safely, and fosters the development of the key learning areas in an active & rich play-based learning environment.

In both our Programs, all children receive a high quality, fun, child-centered, educational and creative preschool experience. Each child is part of a rich learning community. Play is an important aspect of early learning and at kindergarten, intentional teaching through play is integrated throughout all learning experiences. Play allows children to build their confidence and develop skills in each of the core developmental domains (Physical, Cognitive, Language, Social & Emotional) necessary for future academic success.

Kindergarten is a significant year for children to develop increased self-esteem, resilience & an intrinsic motivation to learn while establishing friendships and building skills of cooperation, collaboration, and other essential areas of social & emotional development.

The environment is set up to explore the great outdoors, as well as enjoy the indoor classroom with hands-on, open ended, intentional, planned experiences based on children’s interests and what motivates each individual.

Children engage in a carefully planned indoor and outdoor program each day and receive quality, age appropriate support and guidance as they explore each learning area. Growth and development takes place through these uniquely designed learning areas including a circle-time area for large & small group games, music, movement, dance, stories, and discussion – as well as literacy, numeracy, creative art, science, dramatic play, sensory play, water play, cooking, tinkering, nature and discovery.

All of these experiences are offered both indoors and outdoors, so no matter where a child chooses to spend their time at kindergarten, they will have many options to extend their development in a holistic way. Contemporary research has shown us that child directed play is pivotal in healthy brain growth.
