Make Historic Downtown Truckee Smoke-Free

The Town of Truckee is a vibrant, thriving, mountain community with a local population of healthy, active residents and a tourism economy based on people escaping cities for fresh mountain air and outdoor pursuits. The Town and Downtown Merchants Association have done an admirable job of making the Historic Downtown corridor a bustling gathering place of locals and tourists. With indoor and patio dining at restaurants and coffee shops, as well as bars, unique shops and art galleries, there really is something for everyone Downtown.
However, there is a major detraction to the Historic Downtown corridor. There are no enforced restrictions on smoking in the public spaces, including the patio dining, and so children and adults alike walk through, and dine in, clouds of second hand smoke. With no enforced restrictions of smoking in front of businesses, employees are subjected to second hand smoke in their workplace, especially those who work at restaurants with patio dining.
Signers of this petition seek to persuade the Truckee Town Council to pass an ordinance to make the Historic Downtown corridor smoke-free. Please join in working to keep Truckee healthy and our mountain air fresh and clean!
