On 9/26, a dog named Luna bit her neighbor’s dog in a shared area of the apartment building. The little dog did require 2-3 stitches and a few days later, the neighbor called Troy Animal Control. Luna’s owners had previously offered to pay for all vet bills and were very apologetic to the situation. Luna is 6 years old and has NEVER been aggressive or has bitten another animal or person. Like people, maybe these dogs just didn’t like each other. Luna was then taken from her home days after the incident and put into a cage by herself with no contact with any humans. She is on a ten day bite hold. On Friday, November 2nd, a judge in Troy Civil Court ordered Luna to be euthanized. Luna’s owners did not know which way to turn; however started reaching out to lawyers on Saturday, not getting a response until today. The lawyer told the owner that TROY is the only place in NYS that has its own set of rules, which includes the ability to put down a dog without a second chance or trying to rehabilitate. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? The owners are not trying to deny responsibility. Luna is family. She is a kind, loving dog. She lives with her family that includes a 6 year old little girl, another dog and 4 cats. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING! Luna’s order of euthanasia is for tomorrow 11/7 at 4 pm. Due to the quick manner this was decided, not knowing what the rights of Luna’s family were and today being voting day - WE NEED HELP!!!! Luna’s Family was told that they CANNOT appeal this decision. The lawyer will call Troy Court however he is not hopeful as he said they have their own set of rules. PLEASE SHARE THIS!!! This could be your pet, your family. Luna’s family is an honest, hard working family with a 6 year old daughter who doesn’t understand why her best friend has been torn from her.
