Rachael Hill started this petition to Trip Advisor and

The hospitality industry (holiday lets, B&B's, Small hotels, cafe's, pubs, restaurants is largely made of millions of tiny businesses all struggling to do their best in a very competitive market place and as a result most have little choice but to be listed on Trip Advisor and Google.  However, fake negative reviews posted by those with an alternative agenda such as a competitor, an ex-member of staff or just because someone feels like it can really damage a small business and cause untold amount of stress and suffering for the owners.  When reported to Trip Advisor and Google 99% of the time the response from these industry giants is that they will not remove it even when presented with strong evidence that the review is entirely fake.  As a result, the negative comments stay visible to all often for many years to come.  This form of legalised public slander has got to stop.  It’s time to give business owners a way to stand us for themselves as a result  I am calling for Trip Advisor and Google to put a new 'dispute' system to be put in place where, if a review is reported as fake, the onus is placed on the reviewer to prove they did actually stay, eat or visit the establishment in the form of booking confirmations, receipts, photos etc.  This could be similar to the dispute systems found on PayPal etc where the business owner can also provide evidence of why the review is fake too.  The fake reviews should immediately be taken off line when reported as fake until proved otherwise.  If it is a genuine negative review it is very easy for the reviewer to prove its authenticity.  This system would protect millions of businesses, save a huge amount of anguish and also greatly improve the validity of the reviews shown on Trip Advisor and Google.
