Reschedule Trinity College Class of 2020 Commencement

We feel that postponing the graduation for the Class of 2020 to the spring of 2021 is not the only viable solution, and does not reflect the celebration we deserve and want.

We are urging you to hear our voices.

In March, students from the Class of 2020 expressed to the administration that a summer/early fall 2020 graduation should be prioritized. However, these ideas and suggestions seem to be unrepresented in the final decision.

We are requesting a summer/early fall 2020 graduation and a spring 2021 graduation as a last resort option. Bucknell University, Lafayette University, University of California Berkeley, University of Virginia, and a number of other colleges around the country have tentatively planned for a summer or fall graduation.

It is decisions like these where we realize there are other solutions regarding rescheduling graduation. Although we are uncertain what the future holds, it is clear that their administration instilled thoughtful hope in their decision, while also prioritizing the senior class and their emotions surrounding the inconclusive and unfortunate end to their final moments as a class on campus. Additionally, over the past few days many businesses, organizations, and worldwide events have announced tentative plans to reopen for this upcoming summer, as they anticipate a return of normalcy. Trinity’s decision to postpone graduation until after the 2021 academic year disregards our efforts as a class, as they will be celebrated after another class has made their impact upon our school
