Carla Tardieu started this petition to Trinidad & Tobago Parliament

Landlords have been exploiting the citizens for many years since the dismantling of the rent assessment board.

They have been increasing rent unjustly and charging ridiculous prices for hole in the wall apartments. Most of the apartments are substandard and contribute to many of our citizens living below the poverty line.

Reinstating the Rent Assessment Board to review and evaluate all rental property while handling mediation between both parties would reduce some of the dependence on government to provide housing for lower income families.

People are suffering,  most work all month just to pay rent. There is very little left for food. This further deteriorates our country's mental health and even contributes to crime, because some persons have to secure that rent money by any means neccessary. The landlords don't care how.

Many of these landlords assume that tenants have absolutely no rights.

It is time the exploitation of lower income persons cease.

We are therefore appealing to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to reinstate the Rent Assessment Board immediately.
