What if the same government that sent you to war didn't want to assist you in having a family? I have been a service member for 15 years and have served both in Afghanistan and Iraq and just found out of some genetic chromosome disease I have in which I will continue to miscarry if I continue getting pregnant naturally. Doctors advised me my only other option for a safe and healthy pregnancy is IVF but Tricare will not cover a dime. I live in Massachusetts and cannot purchase a supplemental health plan because I am automatically covered by the military (Tricare). If I was unemployed, I could purchase one though. So I feel as though me and any female service member going through this are being slapped in the face for serving our country. Tricare will cover the cost of breast implants (for non related PTSD), erectile dysfunction, and Viagra just to name a few but will not cover the cost of IVF for infertilty. They claim it is not medically necessary. Doesn't make sense that tax payers are paying for a female to have breast enhancement due to self esteem issues but will not assist in infertility. What kind of psychological effect do you think that has on one? All insurance companies in Massachusetts cover IVF but because Tricare isn't "based" out of MA it does not apply. Massachusetts is one out of 15 states that mandates the coverage of IVF for infertility. We need your help.
