Painted rocks have become popular in recent years, with over 500 rock painting groups in the US.   Painted rocks promote community, creativity, joy, hope, humor, and is a way to spread kindness and love.   Some rocks may be left in places for people to find, sort of like a scavenger hunt, and others may be left in beautiful gardens to enjoy by all those who walk by.

Rock painting as an activity is a great outlet for artistic expression, is a relaxing stress reliever, is easy to do, and accessible to pretty much everyone.   As we like to say, painting a rock has a low barrier to entry – you don’t like what you are painting then paint over it or get another rock!  And yet the results can be amazing and satisfying for the artist.   Subjects range from cartoon characters, landscapes, abstract art, messages of encouragement, mystical creatures, flowers and animals, and pretty much anything one can imagine.

Rocks can be painted by individuals or in groups such as scouts, sports teams, civic groups, religious organizations, neighbors, classrooms, or any other time when people are gathering and looking for something fun to do.    Sometimes people are nervous and will say “I’m not a painter” yet end up with a piece that makes them smile and look forward to giving it away.

To that end, we the undersigned would like to establish a Community Painted Rock Garden in the Tredyffin Easttown area.    We request that the community leaders of our area grant a location to set up a rock garden that all can participate in, by painting and donating rocks, and walking by to enjoy the painted rocks in the garden.  The garden would be maintained by community members, who encourage rock painting and could periodically hold rock painting mini events.   We believe such a painted rock garden will promote connection, joy and kindness, qualities that are especially needed in this challenging time.   A painted rock garden will enhance the TE community.
