Car tax should only be spent on improving our transport infrastructure

We want car tax to be ring fenced and actually spent on improving our roads
Our roads need fixing, upgrading and making more efficient. Our countryside needs better public transport.
Since the Road Fund was abolished in 1937, our car tax goes straight into the coffers of the Treasury and is spent on whatever the Government wants. We want this money ring fenced in a Road Fund and only spent on our transport infrastructure
The Government is introducing new car tax on April 1st putting up rates on most new cars. Particularly at a time when car ownership has become more expensive than ever, we don’t think this is fair unless the extra 1.4 billion pounds the Government is raising is put back into our roads.
