TSA services act to protect us against threats when we travel but what if they only act to protect some of us? TSA's Behvaior Detection program implemented in 2007 allows the database and its members to unfairly discriminate and select certain travels for random searches solely based on physical appearances, race, ethnicity and religious identity. The program has been inspected numerous times and is said to lack scientific basis. The TSA has never produced empirical evidence in support of the programs, despite rapidly expanding it in the last few years, costing taxpayers a total of $1.5 billion between 2007 and 2015. When the TSA commissioned a 2011 study to validate its behavior detection techniques, an assessment from Government Accountability Office (GAO) found the study “did not demonstrate their effectiveness because of study limitations, including the use of unreliable data.” says Michael Nunez of We have to stop allowing our government to play into the systemic racism, it hurts the citizens of this country greatly.
