Jodie Herbert started this petition to NSW Public Transport (Transport NSW)

My 8-year-old daughter was just denied a renewed, free school Opal Card for next year. I knew this was coming but it doesn’t make it any less ridiculous.

We live too close to the school apparently. Two kilometres by walking distance. So my options are either pay for a term bus pass or have my EIGHT-YEAR-OLD child walk to school, every day, and walk back across busy roads. We live on a main highway. But you cannot request a review based on age or personal safety concerns. All good if she gets taken or hurt by strangers, according to Transport NSW.

I want free transport to and from school for all primary school aged children. I should NOT have to pay because I’m not going to make my 8-year-old walk four kilometres a day in seriously unsafe areas. We can’t judge what other people are going to do to our children!

Is this how much our children’s lives are worth to the government? We can’t predict what other people are going to do to our children when they’re not with us!
