Let's SCRAP the Low Traffic Neighbourhood in Streatham Hill
Why this petition matters

This petition is for the people who oppose the series of road blockages Lambeth council have implemented in the Streatham Hill area.
Their intended aim is to create a safer route of travel for pedestrians and cyclists who are apparently too scared to use cars or public transport post covid. The routes they've chosen to do this on do not have high accident rates. If anything thefts and street crime are way more likely than automotive incidents. Several cars have been broken into, 3/4 murders have occurred in as many years but the safety of cyclists is given priority. These closures affect local businesses which, for the disabled or those living at the top of the hill are vital.
This initiative is counter productive. Having more cars corralled into one place can only lead to greater carbon emissions. Especially when cars have to travel further to reach intended destinations.
These particular restrictions have mobile ANPR cameras recording drivers going through. The money wasted on this ill thought out vanity project could have been better spent but one suspects most of the money finds its way into an old boys cabal. With this initiative coming from TFL, more attention should be paid on the 515 workers of that organisation in receipt of £100k per annum salaries. Stupid initiatives like this really make you wonder why. Clearly, anti car enthusiasts will disagree but they pay no road tax.....yet. Going further, maybe a road tax rebate is what should be sought as we're not being given access to the roads as we should be.
