Keen for Clean - Fight to Tackle Chronic Air Pollution in Woodford and South Woodford

It has been a long battle across Woodford and South Woodford to get air pollution recognised by the authorities as a dangerous killer. As local residents, we struggle everyday with the concept that the air in and surrounding our homes is not clean and a risk to our health.

There are several major roads and junctions in the area, like the A406 and Charlie Brown’s Roundabout, and this has led to pollution in certain areas as extreme as it is in Oxford Street.

To try and address this issue we are launching our “Keen for Clean” campaign to join up forces for cleaner air across the area using a coordinated approach. Using power of numbers we hope to engage Redbridge Council and Transport for London in supporting us by addressing the below requests:

Redbridge Council
Acknowledge our specific pollution issue and set up a committee whose specific target is to reduce air pollution in the area using up to date meter readings and involving residents to provide clear accountability
Install monitors at all chronic hotspots and make the results public regularly online, on request and at local public buildings
Investigate and use new technologies such as Eco-billboards that provide the same pollutant protection as 1,200 trees and will also raise revenue for the Council in the long term

 Transport for London
Agree to put dealing with pollution in Woodford and South Woodford at the top of the organisation’s agenda
Fund green walls and trees at hot spots in South Woodford and Woodford
Commit to a review of road and public transport management in areas surrounding pollution hot spots
