Given the monthly losses ($75M) that Translink stated in April, I’m astonished that the company has not put in place measures that reassure the public and protect the community. Translink has to consider how it’s lack of action affects citizens and the larger economy. The dangers of increased viral transmission via mass transit puts people and other businesses in danger of a second wave lockdown.
As for the lax attitude towards mandating masks in all public spaces, I don’t understand why Dr. Henry and the BC health ministry have recently labelled (stigmatized) mandated masks as a “heavy-handed measure.” It’s a measure currently taken by careful countries and cities worldwide, with good results. As for people who cannot wear masks, Toronto infectious disease doctor Dr. Suzy Hota has set out 3 categories that would prohibit mask wearing: people with serious lung diseases, people with allergies to mask materials (but there are now so many options this shouldn’t be an issue) and people with anxiety disorders). Other than those individuals, likely low per capita, there is no rational reason not to wear a mask.

I'm signing because there are many vulnerable people (disabled, seniors, etc) - as well as those of us who have opted to go green and do away with our cars - for whom transit is our only option. Please keep us safe and require masks!! A return to social distancing would probably be a good thing, too.

My brother rides transit daily.
I want him, and all other riders to be safe : single moms with small children, the elderly, the grocery store workers who need to take transit to get to work to help put food on our tables...every member of society is valuable. Wear a mask.

Thankfully mask requirements on transit will finally be going into effect as I see it was announced an hour ago. It's unfortunate it took this long as the despite being in enclosed spaces a large majority of riders have not been wearing masks. When I do go into the office I try and avoid peak times but coming home the train is usually busier and typically in a car of 20 people only 3 will be wearing masks.

They need to do the following.

. Mandate the use of masks or face shields. Face shields are able to be worn by people that can’t wear masks due to medical conditions as it does not interfere with breathing but prevents particles from going straight out

2. Stop cancelling buses every day. Ex. Same time same route every day. That just makes the next one full or overcrowded. Mechanical, medical emergency onboard or mva should be The only valid reasons to cancel

We need to remain steadfast in the fight against this virus. Also, the cleaning protocols have not been maintained; particular the elevators at the stations look completely ignored. It is almost impossible to social distance anymore on transit after 01 June.

This will slow the spread of Covid and people should feel safe on transit, not worried that riding transit Is a health risk.

I'm only seeing about 70% of people on Skytrain wearing masks. I don't feel safe spending 30 minutes in an enclosed space with people who are not wearing masks, as it is not always possible to maintain sufficient distance.
