The trauma on the West Side of Indy behind gun violence and drugs stems from a lack of quality education, tutoring, financial literacy, and a lack  of knowledge of potential opportunities that could benefit its residents and create mental and financial wealth. Not having these simple luxuries causes a lasting negative effect on individuals which also affects the entire community. Change comes from empowerment in the areas of education, career planning, financial education, and the ability to make positive connections with organizations that have the essential tools for people seeking refuge from past traumas. Our communities need alternatives that produce mental and financial stability. Without this type of change, the Near North west, Flanner House, Ransom Place, and other Near west neighborhoods will continue to perpetuate the pain of loss and trauma.
