Let’s Get Active: submission for a trail suitable for walking and cycling around Taranaki.

This petition made change with 580 supporters!

Organised by Sport Taranaki, on November 28th 2017, the three District Councils, Taranaki Regional Council and other organisations had a meeting to discuss an integrated Tracks and Trails Strategy for Taranaki.

While the mayors have discussed amongst themselves the possibility of an integrated strategy, the councils have been developing their own individual strategies and to date late 2017, little has been done to integrate the process and join them.

Lincoln University has agreed to undertake a stock take of existing tracks and trails across the region and look at possible options for future planning. The findings will be presented the next time the councils and other parties involved meet in March.

It is proposed that a public submission supporting integration will be presented to the Councils’ Long Term Plan Public submissions hearings this autumn, supporting the process and urging the various organisations to move as quickly as possible.

To assist with this we ask that you support the attached petition

**Submission to the Taranaki Councils in regards to the Taranaki Tracks and Trails Project**

We the undersigned support the Taranaki Regional Council and the three District Councils in their work to plan, develop and form an integrated tracks and trails network suitable for walking and cycling in Taranaki. We believe that such a network will be of huge benefit to the region in terms of health, social factors and also the economy.

It is important that acknowledgement is made and budget consideration given to ensure that we pick up this opportunity for a cohesive approach in the tracks and trails development of Taranaki starting 2018.

We would urge the councils and other appropriate agencies such as Iwi, DOC, Sport Taranaki and Venture Taranaki to work closely together on this project, liaise with other interested parties and progress the project as quickly as possible.
