Trafford parking restrictions AFC Urmston Meadowside

We are running this petition and asking for support in response to the proposed Trafford Council , Traffic Parking Restrictions around our community based grassroots football club.

We are one of the largest and most successful junior football clubs and we are in our 40th year serving our great community. The club has gone from strength to strength over this period and now has over 750 players across 59 teams.

We also have over 100 coaches and volunteers who work hard running the club and make this community club what it is today. It's a hub for fun and enjoyment at weekends for large parts of our community and their families.

The work we do is largely recognised by Manchester FA and Trafford council itself which is the confusing aspect in their planning of this scheme as they surely know the adverse effect it will have on our club and its members.

Last year alone the club received no less than 4 awards

Manchester FA charter standard community club of the year
North West of England FA Charter standard community club of the year
Manchester FA grassroots football club of the year
Trafford borough council sports club of the year

As you can see a very well respected club and successful one with a great reputation all built over 40 years of hard work and dedication.

Restricted parking outside our club will seriously impact upon training and matches at Lees fields where parents and spectators of Meds teams and visiting teams will not be able to stay and watch their children at weekends. With children as young as 5 this clearly is a situation that isn't viable or sustainable if we are to continue to operate and maintain current numbers and grow the club for the community use for years to come.

The new starters club held on a Saturday morning is very popular and attracts between 100 and 150 children every week.

The children are aged between 5 and 7 and it's essential from a welfare point of view parents have the opportunity to stay and watch and it's likely numbers would fall if they couldn't stay on site.

Restricted parking would seriously compromise our ability to attract new players and grow the club even further hindering us maintaining the current number of teams which we have worked so hard to achieve. It should be pointed out that numerous community clubs and church groups use our facilities during the week and this could also effect them and their use of the venue.

To see the demise of the club which is essential to our community is unthinkable especially when our governing body The FA and the football foundation have given so much support over recent years .Our clubhouse was built 6 years ago is the envy of many grassroots club and was provided with major funding from the football foundation together with substantial fund raising from club volunteers.

Urmston Meadowside has a great reputation not just within the community but also throughout Greater Manchester and further afield. It was only a few years ago that the club won the highest accolade of all when it was awarded the National FA charter standard community club of the year.

We urgently need your involvement and support to protect the club and stop the parking restrictions around the club venue Lees fields so our volunteers can continue to serve this community of ours and children can continue to enjoy their weekends playing sport.

It's not just about football it's also about keeping young people off the streets, reducing childhood obesity, reducing anti social behaviour and improving health and well being of the residents and visitors to our community.

We will of course try and find out more information and hope you can do the same.We also may try and arrange a meeting with residents which maybe you could attend as we feel there will be a lot of opposition to this ,the roads effected are attached.

Please help us protect our club and the future participation of our young generation and generations to come in participating in sport in yours and our community.
